Dear All,

This is a great apportunity for everybody seriously involved with designing of various structures. Licencing for consulting engineers is a must.

In my opinion a good structural engineer is capable of designing a variety a structures/ types of structures. Licencing should not be restricted to a particular type of structure only.

If licensing is to be a serious consideration then the IS codes must be made mandatory and not recommendatory. This will give a common platform for designing structures accross the country irrespective of the state where a person is practising. At present the IS codes are not followed in many structures.

Dear Mr. Anand,

It is my understanding that the use of the IS codes has become mandatory
post Gujarat.
It is no longer recommendatory in nature.
