Dear Sefians
         Can any one throw a light on how the "Moment Magnification factor (MMAG)" considered in ACI-318-05, takes care of slenderness effect through the second order analysis ?

as per clause 10.13.3    M1=M1ns + ds*M1s

and as per equation 10-18 in clause 10.13.4.3 the moment magnification factor "ds" is given as

ds=1/1-(sumPu/0.75*sumPc)

where both the Pu and Pc are the vertical force entities.

and this "ds" is then used as Moment magnification factor, to increase the sway moment caused due to horizontal forces, without increasing the nonsway moments (M1ns) which are due to vertical forces.

How they are relating the vertical force capacity and the sway moments through "ds" which is calculated from vertical forces.

Dear all,

Hope that U all r doing well.

Can anyone please tell me as what factors to consider to design a structure for seisimic as per UBC for UAE or atleast in general with table for values of various factors to be considered.

Urgent help will be highly appreciated.

dear sarfraz
if u r talking about dubai its ubc zone is 2A and soil classification depends on site and geotechinal report....for 2A zone value of Z=0.15...you can check ubc chapter 16 for these values....value of R will depend on building system,,,,is it shear wall system or what?
