Hi all sefians...Wish u a very happy new to all of u..

I am in a confusion so i want to clear from all of u...Please tell me that in a seismic zone "3 or above" , can be take the columns sizes less than 12" or not??.. And if we cant take less size, than can we reduce the column sizes in the above storey or its strictly not possible to reduce the column size in whole structure for seismic zone 3 or more...

     Dear Mr. Amit,
Instead of column if you provide wall you will be able to reduce width to 8" as per IS 13920. That means the other dimension of column has to be 4 times the thickness of wall. But before that please have a look at the constructibility of the element when proper cover has to be provided and if reinforcement is on two faces placing and compacting of concrete is feasible.
     Regards Umesh Rao
